What motherboard do I need to build a descktop with a Intel® Xeon® Processor 5160 ?
Hi,
I have a Intel® Xeon® Processor 5160 processor, and I want to build a desktop.
What motherboard should I use? I found a lot of LGA771 motherboards, but all are for servers.
Any advice?
Thanks
Horia

Intel’s Xeon line of CPUs are their server CPUs, pretty much any board is good. I don’t know if it’s worth building a machine around that CPU though, for consumer CPUs it’s pretty much equal to a Core2 Duo E8400 which is getting pretty old.
What I mean is that the price of the board, RAM etc for the Xeon may cost more than the board, RAM etc for a newer architecture (because they’re not compatible, DDR2 & DDR3 for example) so it may be cheaper to just get everything new.
This CPU is equal in performance: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80623g540
