LG appears to be working on a budget version of its flagship G5 smartphone.

A device dubbed the LG G5 Lite has just passed through China’s Tenaa certification centre, leaking specs details along the way.

The G5 Lite doesn’t make many compromises, coming with the same 16-megapixel and 8-megapixel cameras and 5.3-inch screen as its costlier sibling.

To keep the price down, the handset rocks scaled-down internals, with a Snapdragon 652 chip, Andreno 510 GPU and 3GB of RAM under the hood.

However, its 32GB of internal storage and Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system is unchanged from the G5.

It is unclear whether LG is intending to reserve the G5 in the emerging markets, or offer it as a wallet-friendly alternative to its new flagship on a wider scale.

The LG G5 is now up for pre-order ahead of its release next month.
