End of life for the Nexus Player at the Google Store

The Nexus Player is done. It’s been done at many retailers for the past few months, but it’s especially done now as the Google Store has stopped selling it. In fact, the product page doesn’t exist anymore — the link that would take you there redirects to the Google Store’s TV & Audio section. Ironically, the Nexus Player remains on the header image for the page as of this post.

The Nexus Player was Google’s first start into its Android TV system that allowed content to be played on a larger screen without relying heavily on an Android phone’s resources. A few TV and set-top box manufacturers have started to build the OS into their sets.

Will we see a descendant product when the Nexus hardware event happens? Maybe. We’ll see.
