Facebook is aiming to make one more aspect of life a bit easier for US users with its brand new app.

The social media giant launched on Friday (October 7) a standalone app in the US based around its Events feature, which keeps track of cool happenings in your area.

With Events from Facebook, you can now scan parties, concerts, festivals, etc in your community and in other towns using an expanded map.

You can keep track of all of your appointments using a new calendar, and check out fun events that your friends have already RSVPd for. All of your RSVPs will be displayed on Facebook too.

Facebook’s product manager Aditya Koolwal announced on the company’s blog: “Every day, more than 100 million people use Facebook events to discover things they can do with their friends — from festivals and 5Ks to neighbourhood fairs and nightlife. With hundreds of millions of events shared on Facebook every year, the fear of missing out is becoming a thing of the past.

“Today we’re announcing Events from Facebook, a new app we designed for event seekers who are passionate about keeping up with nearby events and finding things to do with their friends. Whether you’re looking for something to attend this weekend or just wondering what’s happening in your area, Events will help get you there.”

The only downside is that Events from Facebook is currently being trialled for US users on the iPhone only through an App Store download.

If you’re an Android user, don’t worry! Facebook says it’s currently working on an Events app just for you.
