Google launches Android camera app

Google is giving Android users a much more immersive way to look at their photos.

The company released a new Android app Thursday that allows you to take panoramic photos and view them through Google’s Cardboard virtual reality viewer.

Cardboard Camera, available now on Google Play, allows users to capture 360-degree panoramas that they can view in Google Cardboard. You can also capture sound, along with the image, for an even more immersive experience.

In our tests, the app was extremely easy to use, though it took a few tries to line up the edges of the panoramas perfectly. And viewing photos you just shot in Cardboard is admittedly pretty cool, even if it’s not technically virtual reality. Google says it plans to make the app available to iOS users as well, though a spokesperson declined to give a timeline.
