First, Dermot O’Leary made a dramatic X Factor comeback, and now it looks like Louis Walsh might be joining him.

The old-school X Factor judge is apparently meeting with Simon Cowell about returning for series 13 as a means to combat ratings powerhouse Strictly Come Dancing, reports The Sun.

An X Factor spokesperson walked back speculation of an official deal being in place, telling us: “No decisions have been taken on the panel for this year.”

At least so far, Simon Cowell seems to be leaning towards nostalgia in crafting The X Factor series 13.

Classic X Factor presenter Dermot O’Leary was announced this week as a replacement for Olly Murs and Caroline Flack, who both left after a single series.

Another returning feature this year will be the intimate ‘room auditions’, where contestants will come face-to-face with the judges from moment one.

In terms of the judging panel, Simon Cowell will return and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini has been tipped for a comeback as well.

Rita Ora’s status is currently up in the air, but we do know that BBC DJ Nick Grimshaw has opted not to come back.

The X Factor returns to ITV later this year.
