OnePlus has admitted that its USB Type-C cable isn’t playing nice with third-party devices and is offering refunds to anyone who bought the lead separately.

But it won’t be replacing cables that came bundled with the OnePlus 2 smartphone as the wire works as intended with the device.

“If you’re charging or transferring data to or from the OnePlus 2 you should have no problems using the cable that shipped with your OnePlus 2 or the cables or adapters you bought separately on OnePlus.net,” said the firm.

The dodgy cable issue was brought to light by Google engineer Benson Leung, who warned customers not to buy the accessory after discovering that it could damage mobile devices by drawing in too much power.

OnePlus claims that its team has already begun to develop “improved Type-C cables and adapters” to address the issue.

Anyone who purchased the USB Type-C cable separately can apply for a refund on the manufacturer’s website until December 31.
