Samsung’s affordable virtual reality headset, the Gear VR, is now available to purchase in the UK.

The £80 device is compatible with the Galaxy S6 edge+, S6 and S6 edge, turning their displays into an immersive VR experience.

Aimed at consumers, the latest version of the Gear VR is 19% lighter than the previous Innovator Edition and comes with extra padding for added comfort.

Kitted out with touch controls, the headset is geared towards gamers and those with an interest in 360 degree video.

But there are other potential uses – for instance, Samsung has just released a virtual reality-optimised web browser for the device.
